Sri Paada or Adam's Peak - More than a Hike 

 

The renowned pilgrimage season has begun.
Sri Pada peak , Samanola peak, Adam's peak like many names are used to name this sacred mountain. The white color clouds will flow beneath of you. Or you can touch them. Those amazing nature definitely give you a experience of a heaven.

According to the legends and ancient Buddhist literature Sacred Buddha was come to top of this mountain & has established the sacred Foot Print.According to Christian ideology this sacred foot print is belong to Adam.More over Hindus' believe this as God Shiva's foot print and Muslims' considered this as a foot print of their leader. Because of this different views and the multicultural harmony of the Sri Lankan people, this pilgrimage become well reputed.

There are number of of legends about this pilgrimage. According to the legends there were some un explainable things happen while trek to the peak. Earliest people did there pilgrimage with full of respect to the owner god or the protector, The God SAMAN. Moreover there are some falk tales about white color tusker. This tusker was the official travel mean of God Saman. 

 

Most of people are practicing to keep their words and  actions in calm.They think if they tell a bad thing it will cause to stop their travel. The leader of the pilgrims should have thorough knowledge about rituals practice in this area. The first time pilgrims are named as " KOEDU KAARAYA" .

They are advised to prevent from eating non vegetarian foods at least for a  one week before the pilgrimage.This is not only for freshers. Many old peoples, Monks and some of young pilgrims also practice this ritual

Pahurukanda

It is a tiny peak located at the coastal plain of western Sri Lanka. Mountain exhibit the tropical nature with it's native beauty.

It is a little wild mountain and there is a Buddhist temple at the top of the peak. Previously it has used as a  Paththini god's devalaya/ god's temple. Also it is ideal for practice of meditation.

At the top of the peak you can observe the beauty of the dawning sun in morning and picturesque sky and sea at evenings. If you lucky you can observe the Siripada mountain / Adam's peak at eastern sky. 

 

 

 

 

 

 You can select two ways to trek. Friendly villagers will show you those two ways. One will start near to the Pahurukanda school and If you walked to the temple which locate nearby the school , 200m after that you can see the way to the mountain in your right side.

Both ways directly bring you to the top of the mountain. Stone stairs will direct you and make your journey more comfortable.
